This piece is from a wonderful collection of jewellery by Canadian greats Walter Schluep and Hans Gehrig purchased directly from their ateliers in the 1970s & 80s.
The pieces collectively show Schluep and Gehrig’s great range in style and techniques, and many stand as marvellous little sculptures in their own right. They’re all exquisitely well made.
This is a heavy ring, very well crafted, and came in a Walter Schluep suede jewellery pouch. It is well marked - signed and numbered. In researching it we found an old article in le Devoir which described several Montreal jewellery artists, including Schluep, being invited to create pieces based on artists’ work from the museum for the Musée des beaux-arts’ gift shop. This is potentially such a piece, based on artwork by Luis Feito, but we got no reply from the museum to confirm.
