Robert Gervais created bright, colourful enamelled jewellery in much the same style as his contemporaries, the Canadian couple de Passillé-Sylvestre. His refined designs tend to show more attentuated lines and are almost excusively abstract. The design of this brooch is nicely set off by the background, which is shaded from dark at the outer rim to a pale sky blue in the centre.
